Oil level on 1.2's

Checked my oil tonight (most new cars I've had have used some in the 1st 1K) and it looks like its overfilled. I thought the oil should be in between the marks??? cars is on level ground. Anyone else seen this?

fiat's should be at te top f the hatched markings

to give you some idea your engine takes 3 litres and between the top and bottom mark is one litre of oil

and you'll find that new fiat engines don't burn much atall

Re: Oil level on 1.2's

Mine is just over the hatched markings and I haven't added any yet at just over 800 miles. Fiat must have slightly over filled it. I suppose it's better that way. My 1.2 will be getting a bit of a run over the bank holiday weekend as I'm spending a couple of nights near Brighton which from Manchester where I am is about 250 miles. Oil still looks like new up to now.

Re: Oil level on 1.2's

Having too much oil is not good either.......you can end up blowing the seals which can be tricky to replace.

Won't do much for your economy either as the crank will be running in oil as well.

Mine used about 1/4 a litre in the first 3500 miles.

Re: Oil level on 1.2's

Our Cinq Sporting, which we have owned from new has never used a drop in the 57,000 miles that we have driven it. From one service to the next the oil level on the dipstick never moves.

The same is true of our '96 VW polo which will be replaced by a '500. That (the polo) has done 176,000 miles!

I always use Mobil 1 incidentally
