(G) Whats the best MPG from the 1.2 engine??

Overinflated tyres will generally give you better economy. Not reccomended for safety of course

I am on 38.9 however my journey to work is 1.5 miles barely enough to reach correct temp. My previous car was the Panda 1.2 and there is a large increase in consumption at 80-85 on motorway probably down to low 30s. I have tried 70ish but choked on truck fumes so its back to the other two lanes and around here (M4) that means 80+.

So after daily driving and 1000 miles on the clock I'm still getting no more than 40mpg. I'm not flogging it by any means and climate only on sparingly if at all. So where am I going wrong?

45.6 on latest tank (mileage approx 1200)

one 60 mile motorway trip followed by one week of city driving in traffic followed by a big b road jaunt yesterday (probably a good genuine combined test).

I was only getting around 43-46 for my first 1500 miles, then had to go on a long 500 mile round journey this week, and averaged 52, so I was very pleasantly surprised. We also live at the top of a hill, and it absolutely drinks the fuel to get up a in 2nd - I'm sure this is the problem. Have you tried taking it out for a decent motorway drive and re-setting the trip?

We're still getting 42-43 but we're hoping to get it up a lot higher with the long clear roads and low speed limits when we get to the USA next month....

Sorry, I haven't been following, but can I ask why you are taking the 1.2 and not the 1.4 to the US?
I'd have thought the bigger engine was more appropriate.
There must be as reason.

When we took the Caterham to USA I found the only way to pass the boredom on the long clear roads was to drive flat out...........mpg drops to low teens but fuel was as cheap as chips back then.

There are some pretty big hills as well.........

highest i have had mine is 38.8MPG, normally it some were round the 30 mark :-(
