Unhappy It's happened to me now as well

Decided to wash and polish my 500 this morning as I'm off over to family later to show him off. Just in the process of hosing him down first .....and there's this massive great scratch down the front driver's side wing that carries on over to the door. It's right down to the white primer coat/undercoat. I wanted to scream, the air was blue, my face was red. "I 've only had him 3 weeks!" I shouted. Not that there was anyone 'round to hear me. Boy am I so p*ssed off.
This looks like a bodyshop job. I don't think T-cut and a polish out is going to make any difference. I'm not sure if it's an accidental scratch or deliberate. I hope it's not the latter. I reckon it may have happened in Sainsbury's car park last night, yet I did park away from other vehicles on the edge of the carpark.

Phoned my insurance company who were helpful and sympathetic. They advised me to call the police and get a crime ref no. Luckily my no claims bonus is protected. Unluckily I've a £250 excess. I'm not sure how much a bodyshop would charge for this and what would be involved. I am one unhappy bunny today.

Single scratch across panels is usually deliberate.

Can't blame someone for being jealous, if we're honest That absolutely sucks though. Hope it gets sorted in no time at all.

Re: It's happened to me now as well

Thanks for all your kind words and sympathy. I'll get it sorted and will be a happy bunny again. I'm going to take it to a bodyshop or two to find out what work's involved and how much it'd cost. If it's less than £250 (ie my insurance excess), I won't bother going through my insurance. If it's more than £250 then I will go through the insurance. On the positive side, I still have a fantastic little car.

The 500 went down a treat with my parents and rest of the family, despite the scratch. They all think he's fab, and loved the colour and interior, though my brother in law actually thought it only had a 500cc engine, so I showed him under the bonnet.

Re: It's happened to me now as well

I hate this... when my car was done.. i was more wound up that they keyed it. and that was it... i would much rather they had left mine on house bricks and nicked the wheels, then at least they would of got something out of it, instead of just being a case of spite and jealousy..

Re: It's happened to me now as well

its awful when you hear of peoples cars being keyed. some people are just so jealous and know they would never be able to afford or have a car like you, so they key it out of pure spite. my g/f's old punto got broken into twice and on both occasions NOTHING was stolen, even though she left change in her ashtray. it was out of spite, they even spat on her car, which disgusted us the most, we moved the day after that! good job we were renting!!

anyway, lets hope and pray they all get there comeuppance

You did well getting to three weeks! My Grande Punto was keyed all down one side less than 24 hrs after I got it. £600 to repair and my excess was £150. This sort of thing is kind of putting me off buying a new 500 at the mo.

i understand where your coming from, but you can't not have things just because you think something bad's going to happen, if you do that then the scum win and we can't have that! get a new 500 and park it well out of the way! lol

Re: It's happened to me now as well

Good luck with the repair.. I hope it hasn't made you too miserable. Poor little car hasn't done anything to deserve such abuse. Chin up and carry on enjoying (although I'd feel sick).
