Re: Today's the day...

Nope I wasn't grinning all the way home.

As soon as I drove off the car felt really sluggish and the mileage display started flashing continuously.

Stopped it, restarted it, fine, then as soon as I moved off again it started flashing again.

Came over a large bump and the left hand indicator flashed all on its own!!!!

So when I got home I looked on the Grande Punto forum and found out all about proxy alignment. One poster suggested disconnecting the battery earth, leaving for 30 seconds and reconnecting.

When I looked the earth terminal was not tightened properly and the clamp was waving in the wind.... it's an interfrence type lever clamp.

So every time the car moved it would lose and earth connection a bit and give a low voltage warning to the cluster. Now secured.

No flashing and now grinning from ear to ear!!!

So guys check your battery terminals are good and tight! Must have been the PDI boys as I'm sure the battery is disconnected in transit. Or should I blame it on the Polish. Anyway, all sorted and very happy!!!

Pics over the weekend!!

Re: Today's the day...

No, but what other little surprises are in store?

Actually there are more. They charged me £30 for fuel and forgot to fill it up but told me they would pay for the full fill up when I send them the bill.

Also, they have mis-spaced the number plates. So if I get pulled by the police, we'll be having words.

They won't be giving you much for free there then as it only holds 35 litres so it won't be much over 35 quid!

Hm, I know, filled it up en route home and it only took £28.

I'm more worried about being stung £1000 for misspaced plates... They will get a rather large flea in their ear tomorrow about the plates, battery and the fuel!!!

How have they spaced it ? I was told they could only do it as it appears on the dvla registration docs.

Different garages used different systems for plate printing. Our system was replaced about a year ago. From a system that would let you make any plate with any spacing to one that will only allow you to make legal ones.

Indeed and that is what I expected. There is supposed to be a 33mm space between the number and the following three letters. (5 and oo)

Despite the plate having the correct BSAU 145d mark and the dealer's postcode, they left NO gap, leaving me with an illegal plate!! (£1000 fine potentially and confiscation of the plate!)

Another flea in the dealer's ear this morning (it was their supplier who misspaced the plates) and they have ordered so0me new ones for me!

Now all correctly sorted. They couldn't have been more helpful or apologetic.

Doug

At least they have apologised, but thats awful re the battery... great PDi! As for the plate, I expect someone was trying to be helpful in the wrong way, if you get me
