General Why bother with a diesel

I mean Fiat say they will not supply any dealer with 500s if they are discounting them. New price list for the 500s has no discount on the previous prices. So if they do discount them they will not be able to sell them new for long, so will be hurting future sales of the car.

I take your point but Fiat will start discounting them - they make too many cars not too. All the talk of 4 month waiting lists is nonesense if my enquiries are anything to go by - stock cars, or those specced already by delaers are coming through on 8-10 week lead time now. Maybe not the usual 'from large stock' that fiat normally operate, but certainly no longer than the build time for a Mini, BMW , Merc etc etc, and not 4 months wait.

Anyway we digress - the 1.2 engine is great for the city :slayer:

Fiat will never control values and supply - only Porsche can do that succesfully with any sort of volume sales.
And MINI.

Fiat bulletin came yesterday or the day before I can't remember, with new price lists for all cars. ;)
The only price change was due to changes in Road Fund Licence (or have they finally stopped lying about what it's for and changed the name to something with 'Tax' in it?) and the First Registration Fee Stealth Tax going up to £55 on April 1st.

Just to interject:

Three pages already, nothing provokes a lengthy thread like petrol-vs-diesel. For me, it's about as a pointless as debating coffee with or without milk; ultimately, its matter of taste, whatever the marginal savings/expenditure of cost.

Carry on... :D
