Restarting a stalled 1.3

Someone managed to bring the 1.3 to a "startled and abrupt" halt yesterday and then phoned to say they coudnt get it restarted. It wasn't the fuel cut off or anything else we could immediately think of. Phoned the guys we work with a Fiat and they ummed and ahhed too then said - retry it again. It started OK

Weird, no idea what happened but the car refused to start for 8-10 mins, locked and unlocked etc without any joy. Didnt touch or change anything and then tried again and it started without an issue and has driven perfect ever since. Until our next one comes in a week or so we dont have an english manual.

So if your 500 has been brought to a quick halt and wont restart - dont panic, just stand back and admire it for a short while then retry it lol!

Re: Restarting a stalled 1.3

i should think the certain someone that staled it tried to start it imediately to save embarisment turning the key off and on again straight to crank this can confuse ecus on an engine that has just stalled so leaving it with ignition off for a wile gives it a chance to setle

one thing to remember is the engine will not inject any fuel wile your cranking untill it has had the glow plugs on for a few seconds even if your cranking it you will notice this if you go to start one from cold straight after turning the ignition on

Re: Restarting a stalled 1.3

Not a problem I've had on my Panda MJT. I would think this is an ECU glitch as I've had learners stall my car on quite a few occasions and it's always restarted no problems.
