Sky dome roof

having test drove a pop i had a sit in a lounge with a sky dome fitted and was shocked to find i didn't fit !! i'm 6'2 and the sky dome creates a dip in the headlining of the car of aroud 2-3 inches. just a caution to anyone ordering sky dome without sitting in a car with it fitted.

Re: Sky dome roof

Im 6 2" and had a skydome in a new Panda and it was fine, tried sitting in a Lounge with one and that was fine too... how odd.

Re: Sky dome roof

Ever tried sitting under the sunroof version? My head was pressing on the frame, hard, with my neck bent over, and I am only 6'0". Lowering the seat made no appreciable difference.

I dislike sunroofs anyway, and I can't quite see the point of the skydome, unless it is to offer a contrasting and smartish appearance from outside - so I tend to defer to the solid roofed versions.

Re: Sky dome roof

Hang on, the skydome is the opening roof... the fixed roof is just that. I love the glass roof, gives the interior some brightness and feels very light and airy. I test drove two Lounges and never once did I touch the roof... maybe I have a short body and long legs

Re: Sky dome roof

Me and my brother were in one in the Fiat showroom and we're only average height (he's 5'10 and i'm 5'9). We didn't lower the seats but were both disappointed with the level of headroom and immediately decided it was a no-no. But maybe a bit of playing around would've helped, but even though it's not like our heads were scraping along the sunroof, there wasn't nearly sufficient room for our liking... Felt (ironically) a bit more claustrophobic than the Sport i sat in.

Sorry, I'm not aware of the exact terminology, but you know what I mean.
OK then, the headroom with the skydome is rubbish.

The sport hasn't got the glass roof, has it? And also, without the chrome, this tends to be the one I prefer, except that I need separate rear seats etc.. So here we go with the options...and checking to see if the final spec required with the Sport is less or more expensive than the Lounge version, which unfortunately comes with the chrome but does have the split seats, but also includes the unwanted glass roof, and...... aaaaaaahhhh!

Spain
Re: Sky dome roof

I have driven the sport and lounge versions and if you are over 6ft tall the lounge's glass roof will affect your comfort.

The seat height adjuster is no help either, offering just a moderate tilt of the seat cushion angle.

I personally think that the sport finish is nicer too but spanish spec is for split seats on both models so in the end the main differences are the alloys, seats and bodykit.

In the end I went for a Panda 100hp instead, more exclusive, much cheaper and faster too. No headroom problem front or back either

Re: Sky dome roof

Honestly, it doesnt... Im 6 2" and have sat in three Lounges and driven two, never once had to adjust the seat height or thought I was touching the roof. I sat in one with an opening roof just to check and that too was fine. You all must have very long bodies and shorter legs

Re: Sky dome roof

No; shortish body and longish legs actually, which is why I find some Fiats impossible to get comfortable in - and the skydome had my head actually pressing against the roof surround. An impossible purchase in fact - if I wanted a sunroof - which I don't. The plain glass roof was fine, but not something I particularly want since I like max space and I dislike overhead light. With the seat at its lowest position under the skydome I simply wasn't comfortable, liking as I do to sit high in a car, and anyway the roof surround was still there!

I'm afraid I have to have really good head clearance or I simply won't consider a car. This is a 'me' thing, and not something I will compromise on.

So it's the Sport then.

Re: Sky dome roof

I concur, after sitting in the passenger seat of Emma's Dad's lounge spec 500, I found the car very uncomfortable because my head was on the roof, and I'm only just under 6foot, do get my head off the roof I had to tilt the seat back to IMHO an uncomfortable position unless you are a youth with a cap on who seem to like having the seat leaning back loads. Driver's side was better as seat had height adjustment.

Quite right. You have to pay extra. So you have to tally all the qualities you want in a 500 and then see which model gives them to you most cheaply, the Lounge or the Sport, or even the Pop. Then you look at what you get that you don't want, and balance this into the equation as well. Then you look at what you would quite like, but may not be able to have with the car you have almost chosen, then you go back and double check, and before you know where you are you are pretty fed up with the whole exercise and give up - until they introduce the new twin cylinder engine in 2009
