I'm concerned!

On the other fiat forum a Mr H has just got his new 500 yesterday and when he went to use it the clutch was locked solid! he got the AA out and they mentioned something about a cable tie! I was always dubious about buying a Fiat and now that we have one on order I am starting to get a bad feeling about it all, please say things to me that might help me feel better as I am so having second third and fourth thoughts about it now, but don't make up good things to make me feel better

Mentioned something doesn't really give to much information.

AA man used a cable tie to fix it. Car was held together by a cable tie, Someone left a cable tie behind the pedal.

Just been on the other Fiat forum Can't see anything about a new 500 in the last few days.

Re: I'm concerned!

Don't worry, any new car may have the odd niggle no matter what make you buy. The sisters 500 is running well, 3 weeks or so old and over 1000 miles, not so much as a squeak!

Re: I'm concerned!

Andy,

The internet is a wealth of info but you will find every bad bit about every car (and everything else).

I knew a guy who picked up a brand new BMW 5 series, drove it home and parked it in his garage. Went to get it out and it had no reverse (it was a tiptronic). It was a swine for the breakdown guys to get it out onto the truck!

Every car will have stories like these.

As we all know if there is a time things will be wrong with a car it is when they are delivered. Now with proper PDIs it is hard to understand how they get through but they do and at all levels of manufacturers.

My daughter picked up a new Punto Grande and that was perfect, six months on not one issue. My company car Audi has been perfect, anothers colleague's has been back in for electrical problems with the dash multiple times.

I wouldn't take one incident as being representative - if these forums light up with common issues then I would be concerned.

Cheers
Baldrick

Re: I'm concerned!

Found it.
Was on the other 500 forum not fiat one.

Slave cylinder stuck in the out position by something resembling a cable tie.

Seems a strange one. One of the tech on here might have a better idea whats going on.

Re: I'm concerned!

Beast thanks for looking, I didn't know there was another 500 forum, it is comforting to know that this forum is almost like a little family who help and advise each other which is great to know, as with Lindas smart car it was the same and I am sure that even when people have got their new 500 the forum will still be going strong with topics the same as the smart forum. I know you can get a problem with any new car I have a golf GT company car and it's great but I know in JD power survey VW were quite far down, but I haven't really had any issues with them.

I hope the 500 stays as active as it has been even when people have got their 500s...reminiscing of little 500 adventures lol

Re: I'm concerned!

like everyone has said, the worse problems will always appear on the net. Look at other forums, for instance the skoda one, where every post about the VRS seems negative, yet a bloke at work has had just one issue in 3 years, a gearknob that oxidised!
