What would be the best day to pick up a new car then?

A weekday or on a Saturday?

A weekday. Saturdays are selling days. Your salesman will proberly rush through the handover as quickly as he can. Also if there are any issues with the cleaning or the mechanicals of the car, valeters and techs will be away home early and unable to sort the problems while you are there.

Its probably better to pick your car up when the salesman isn't busy. So I would make the effort to go during the week, possibly in the morning. You want to make sure evrything is alright and that all the controls are explained to you. If the salesman can see prospective punters wandering about the showroom while he is doing your handover, then he won't be concentrating on you.

That's quite novel having a car on the 29th... still you'll be saving yourself hundreds when it comes to resale time if you waited for the 1st March.

I was waiting to see who would fall for it. I am getting an 08 plate, and picking it up on trade plates on Friday night.
