Londons a crap place now, so I shant bother:) all that will happen is the big 4x4 owners will rush out and buy a little car to get into London, thus having two cars instead of one. You watch the parking charges rise sharply though... Kens a nasty man, always has been.

yes but i live in london so avoiding £8/day is def a good thing. i had ordered a 500 anyway so to see you can now enter for free has got to be a good bonus even if you do hate 'lovely and ever sunny' london

It will only be free for a while for our 1.2 engines, and then it will be electric cars only. And when everyone has an electric car, he'll impose charges on them, ad nauseam.

It's not about congestion, but more money for him and his mates who receive grants for their companies that he is a non-executive director of.

If it's about pollution, then all buses would be electric. But no, they are inefficient diesel behemoths taking up more and more space with fewer and fewer passenger seats.

Anyone who shouts the "Chelsea Tractor" line should be aware that it's not about the large vehicles. Yes, they are often driven very badly by local mums, but why is that the vehicle's fault?

This is a tax on choice and freedom, and that is why this country's liberties and values are falling apart.

Ken is a prize commie dictator. He has absolutely no idea how transport works, but has the power to act whimsically, to the detriment of the very people he is meant to serve.

I have nothing but contempt for him and his ilk.

Harrumph!

ok ok ok, i hate again.. i hate him..

just wanted to drive for free - tis all.

I am also of the belief that Livingstone is a tosser.

My parents cars would both be charged £25 when they go into London (where my dad works anyway); not only that but i believe if he's going to make so much money from people driving into London (which is inevitable, it being the money capital of the world) he could at least spend it on making public transport better, because let's face it, for all his talk i can't see much improvement. The public transport in London isn't really that good and the busses could utilise modern technologies to be cleaner (i know they have a few no-emissions busses, but nowhere near enough) and more desirable.

Instead, he's just enjoying these money-making schemes knowing that people will still go into London, so it's easy money for him. People who are going to pay £25 to go into London are the people who pay more tax when they purchase their cars, tax taken out of their wages (if they are company cars) and tax on the fuel they use because they use much more of it and fuel is around 50% tax anyway.

To sum that up if you can't be bothered to read it: Ken's still an arse.

This is just a tax on the poor. My Bro's offices are in central London and he's just sold his DB9 and got a Maserati GranTurismo. £25 a day? Just makes the roads clearer for him and other people who can afford it.

BTW, the 1.3M-jet has lower emissions than the 1.2 petrol - 110g/km v 119g/km, so I'll be exempt in October too and both only £35 a year RFL!

At least it's only £35 a year. Such a bargin compared to £115 odd for most other small cars.

my dealer tried to con me like he was doing me a HUGE favour by giving one years tax with the car instead of six months.
firstly you can't get 6 months tax for band B cars and big deal its only £35! hmm to dodgy dealers.
ps. i still hate ken. he is ugly.

This is the main reason I "down sized" my Saab 2.3T to a 1.3Mj. The writing is on the wall, Duty, fuel, congestion and C02 taxes will all be raised and lowered to move people from 25mpg to 50+mpg cars. This is an enevitable fact. Choosing to run a big engined car will become a luxury, and tbh so it should, no one needs that much power in a car unless ur towing. Dont get me wrong I loved the Saabs midrange torque but I also liked lion shooting and that seems to have gone out of fashion too :D!
However Red Kens taxes seem to cum across there is no easy way to force us to submit to logic.
