General What Do All These Things Do?

on the a/c unit it says 'asr off' - so i guess u can turn some bits off

Yeah, you can turn the traction control off :)

Who would ever... ever in their lives goin back a few years, have thought of a FIAT 500 having traction control!? :spin::spin::spin::chin:

oh i see.. maybe will turn it off brake hard and get the hazards to flash. that somehow seems fun :slayer:

Think I should wade in here.

Esp and the other safety devices are not idiot savers. Accidents can happen to anyone however skilled, suddenly and before the brain is even able to inject the necessary chemical into your blood stream to enable you to react.
Computerised safety equipment can react hundreds of times faster than the human body can.

ALSO I have been unfortunate enough in my life to witness a fatal accident, and I have seen first hand what happens to the human body when it comes into contact with a ton of fast moving metal.

There is no amount of fun to be had which can match the horror of a fatal car accident.

It is cavalier and frankly revealingly obtuse to loutishly disregard the purpose of electronic safety features, which, yes can 'interfere' with the driver experience but are more and more responsible for people being able to walk away from what would have been major crashes without them.

As Simon Bell has said, if you want to have fun responsibly, as in the Caterham 7, which has no driver aids then that is an adult choice made by intelligent people who know their limits and the limits of the machine, but don't laugh in the face of people who use/need/require safety aids or just like to have them there for peace of mind that sort of attitude is extremely disappointing and irresponsible.

Oh and hill launcher is excellent, even though most people know how to use a handbrake, hill launch is a luxury that once you experience, you miss if it's absent.

Calm down dear, it's only an internet thread! ;)

My comments are very tongue in cheek (hence the smilies), but they do hold an element of truth. Many people have come to rely on these things far too much.

Fatal RTAs are not declining, despite all these safety improvements in the past 10 years. This is because people are becoming more and more inattentive and careless on the road. Whether this is due to worsening driver education standards or because of the increased sense of security with all the gizmos, or some other reason, I don't know. Speed limits are systematically being dragged down to the lowest common denominator, so perhaps this is the reason - people are simply falling asleep as they have no mental stimulation. But I guess this is something for another thread.

Answers on a postcard, etc... :)
