when i went to have a look at the 500, i asked the salesman when the grande punto and 500 abarth are out. he told me that he thinks there are no plans for them or they wont be out for ages.:S. im sure i heard the grande abarth is out this july and the 500 early next year.

he made me laugh when he said theres no plans for an abarth version.:S

any one know when the release dates roughly are? i think he was tellin me porkies so he can sell me a 500 haha. when i said il wait for the abarth he finaly left me alone:D. hahar no commision 4 him

Re: do fiat know what they are talking about?

Best place to find out about all italian marques and their plans is www.italiaspeed.com - oh and on here of course in relation to FIAT's.;)

Not sure of exact dates but the Grande Punto will be out in Abarth guise probably some time this year with the 500 Abarth in 150 or 180bhp guise in 2009/10 I should imagine.

Worth the wait me thinks.;)

Mind you ALFA will also be bringing out the ALFAsud replacement 'Junior' some time in 2008/9

As for the salesman - probably selling washing machines or photocopiers last week. Never rely on a salesman to be fully briefed on a car and it's options - even if he has been on the factory visit and training course - on the whole they only remember one thing - SELL, SELL, SELL

Re: do fiat know what they are talking about?

fiat dealersales staff often havent got a scooby doo clue
fiat group uk dont seem much better or much more interested.

THey are saying you can't buy the dealer showroom/demo cars from dealers for 3 months, but the truth is different. At least one collected his 500 showroom car 21 jan (from stoneacre wrexham) and other dealers are doing the same now. Fiat GROUP ARE LIKE "wHAT" "Where" "We didnt know that"
Thanks for telling us" and "Oh yeah he selling it on at autotrader website" "We didnt know"

They dont even seem to know whats going on with the present range
never mind future stuff.(n)

haha good on you, yep they'll say anything to make you BUY NOW FROM THEM rather than at some possible indeterminate time in the future. i got the same spiel when i asked about the abarth 500 when i test drove a 100hp 'oh that won't be reaching the uk, the line-up we have now is all the uk will be getting'

he was so desperate he even claimed the 1.4 in the 500 is 'a lot less powerful' than the panda 100hp. wtf? again, presumably to make me buy the panda right there and then.

to be honest, some of them are a f****** joke. i feel sorry for those that really rely on the dealers for honest advice.

still, you gotta laugh at their grasping desperation! :D

Re: do fiat know what they are talking about?

I take it no one here is on around £4.50 basic + bonus? oh & 62 hour week.

bonus only comes if you sell & meet targets (so your house/family is at constant risk)...if not use your satnav system to find the nearest DSS office.

Personally i'd never consider any selling job but who knows what the future holds for any of us,there may come a time when you have no other choice!

I have met some very good salesmen & some very bad.

(p.s. title of thread should be 'do salesmen (not Fiat) know what they are talking about)

Fiat announced in December at the Dealer Conference in Birmingham that there will be 10 Abarth dealerships in the UK, the first of which could be opening as early as June.

They will be the only dealerships selling Abarth products; initially offering the Grande Punto and a full range of tuning and styling products for other cars.

There has been no official announcement as to when the 500 Abarth will be released.

There has been no announcement made yet (although I'm sure that those involved will already know much more detail) as to where these dealerships will be, who they will be operated by, or even if any of the existing Fiat dealerships will be used, so I'm not at all surprised that this particular Fiat Sales Exec knows nothing, as there are very few that do. Almost all of them will never sell an Abarth (as a new car, anyway) so they don't need to know anything about them.

One problem is the motoring press make statements regarding prices and launch dates without any kind of official confirmation and it goes around as though it was gospel. I have seen various prices for Punto Abarths in the press which give the impression they are from informed sources but in fact are pure speculation. Remember the 500 was going to start at £11k going back a few months?

All valid points well made. I know I certainly wouldn't fancy sales as a career.

To be honest, whether it's a car, holiday or a toaster I'm the kind of bloke that does plenty of research myself so that all I need to know from the sales person is the price.

Funnily enough the only thing I don't research is the food I put in my stomach. Odd that - maybe it's something to do with the fact that there is nobody actually in the supermarket pressing me to make a purchase.:chin:

Yes and no. A lot of car magazines that are available in the UK are part of a group of magazines including european sister titles. If someone in Germany sees something interesting, it is splashed over all the titles and may not be relevant to all the market areas.

Cheers

Do you look at one tub of Utterly Butterly in Tescos then go price up another tub in Sainsburys?
