General 1.2 versus 1.3

General 1.2 versus 1.3

depends on whose opinion you trust really, people that spend every other day in a properly fast car will prefer a buzzy 1.2 if anything over a 75bhp diesel, however in the real world where we live, i think 60mpg and some motorway torque is a pretty good thing, plus remaps of course.

Thats the way I am looking at it. We wont all agree on which is best but for me the 1.3 is the only way to go.

With the torque, the fuel economy and the fact I can get it remapped with a good few extra BHP, its the only choice for me.:slayer:

I may go for a remap too, about 7bhp more apparently (approx 10%)

Is this the real world? The majority of people are not interested in such tweaks, it would also invalidate the warranty. Also I doubt if many will own their cars long enough to recoup the additional purchase price and the extra cost of derv.

Can I ask a dumb question; does the Multijet 500 make use of a 'Sport' button? Or is that only the petrol 1.4?

I've been driving a few 1.9CDTi SRi (Multijet :D) Astras recently for work and they have a 'Sport' button which instantly takes away that low-rev flatness that frankly I've despised in every other diesel I've driven (and that's been a lot :().

You have to question the validity of an article that claims the diesel is more refined at idle.

All reviews are merely the opinion of the author. We don't have to agree with it, but that doesn't mean it's not valid.

It does in my book. If something it patently incorrect it does seriously call into question the other opinions expressed.

Valid - Sound, defensible, well grounded. - The authors statement was none of these.

Come on Scrogg nail your colours to the mast, tell me the diesel is more refined at tickover and I'll call the men in white coats now.

I suggest a seismograph and a decibel meter may be helpful, that way we can remove opinion from the equation.

The seismograph wil be particularly useful when testing the diesel, it may not register a reading from the petrol engined cars. :D
