Hi there,

Was thinking about switching to a 100HP Panda, and then picked up a few brochures for the New 500. Our local dealer has the White and the Red tucked round the back - not for demo yet, but he took me round and we'll see how things pan out as we get nearer the 21st...

What I was wondering though was... is this the main forum for all things Fiat then, or has anyone else set up anything similar to MINI2.COM yet?

I've had a couple of MINI's in the past (not without their faults, but good fun at the time) - and totally loved that website, getting info and all the chat about the models and new options etc that came out.

Not wanting to overcook it, but the 'community' element to it all was very decent indeed; and made a big part of the ownership experience. (I don't work in marketing, honest!).

Anyhoo, just asking - is this the place?

Welcome to here :D

Take a look at our stats:

Threads: 122,030, Posts: 1,333,036, Members: 35,483, Active Members: 3,228, Games: 880

We are a large community, plus have stands at all the major UK shows were possible. What more could you want :D

Paul Mullet I think his name was - the guy behind MINI2. Is he getting a 500 then?

My name hasn't changed since I started NF500 either you know. ;) Although there's two ts in that Mullett, it's the only thing that separates me from a bad haircut or a fish. ;)

The site's hardly at MINI2 proportions yet, but it's just a baby, so you never know. Do pop by and say "Hello".

a forum for fiat 500 run by some one into minis that are not even real minis, thats wrong on so many levels :(

stick around here and find out what a real comunity forum can give :slayer:

if thats still not enough, why not join one of the many 500 clubs that have been going for years

Thanks for all the replies so far. Friendly bunch!!! I've got hundreds of reading to get through (since discovering here and NF500) so I'll be hanging around for a while yet.

On the way home I swung past another local dealer (Allison St Fiat Glasgow), saw they had one under that 50's rain cover thing and got chatting to the young salesbloke. Not meant to take these off, but here have a look... powdery blue diesel one it was, with the complex spikey alloys. Nice. Not sure about the colour for me, but in the flesh it did look pretty neat.

So Paul are you toying with the idea of getting one, or just covering the online angle from a potential business perspective? :D Apologies about the lack of T too.

All the best, DBB (aka Dietbruboy)

well there's a nice constructive comment there, as I am beggining to expect from the FIAT Forum

MINI2 never claimed to be a forum for original Mini owners/fans, but only ever the new MINI.

Regardless of what anyone may think about the site or its founder, nearly 52,000 members worldwide, over 3,000,000 posts in just six years and being internationally-recognised as the number one independent resource for information about the MINI is to be admired.

NF500 will never be a competitor to The FIAT Forum, as it only caters for owners/fans of one Fiat model, but you cannot deny that without it much of the information in the 500 section on here would not have been posted.

But does it though?

A sad fact about all large forums such as this one is that cliques very quickly develop. The 'old guard' that have been around since the beginning (or at least the very early days) all know each other and most, if not all, Newbies can be put off by this :(

Personally, I plan to stick around (I've even contributed) as I feel I can gain a lot of information about Fiat from people that have first-hand experience of the marque, and may even be able to offer some help or advice to others along the way.

If the existing 500 clubs are anything like the Mini clubs were (and for the most part still are) the new 500s won't be welcomed.

If this does happen new 500 clubs will start to form (as happened with the MINI) and will most likely soon outnumber the original 500 clubs that shunned them (again, as has happened with Mini vs MINI) which I suppose is inevitable when you have more and more of a new model on the road whilst the older model's number continue to dwindle.

Problem with this place is that there are too many people who are willing to slag FIAT's & the 500 at every opportunity.
You get that on every car forum.

There are a number of people that traipse around MINI2 looking for every opportunity to slate MINIs, so we just ignore them.

When all is said and done everyone is as entitled to their opinion as everyone else. If you don't agree with that opinion you can choose to ignore it, or,as is the whole point of forums, join in with the debate.

If comments are made that have some grounding other than an irrational or unjustified hatred of a particular car than I personally think they should be welcomed. If they are made with neither of these to support them then the people making them are just Trolls and are to be pitied.

I would also like to point out that a member of MINI2 came purely onto this website, to troll against FIATs. He, of course, was dealt with appropiately by the moderation team here [this was not recent by the way].

As for not welcoming new members here, I do find that comment a bit bizarre - I go to most of the meets throughout the year, and always see new faces, as well as the old ones.

That doesn't surprise me, there are loads of idiots around with nothing better to do than troll forums. It happens on all the big ones.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say, or even imply, that Newbies aren't welcomed, I said that they can often be put off from joining in with the discussions when everyone else seems to know each other.

This kinda' thing is always a shame - I used to fall victim to the same stigma that a lot of Brits have around FIATs 'til I fell in love with my Cinq', & if I'd not bought a Cinquecento for my 1st car & learnt about this place I'd never have looked twice at an old one, let alone a restoration, yet now I'm a convert to the point that around 6 months ago if I'd not been too skint I'd have bought an original 500 I spotted that needed quite a bit of work.

I suppose many people's negative attitude towards the new Mini was bred by the fact that BMW asset stripped it from originally British origins, but lets face it as the years go by old cars do get forgotten by the general public to some degree & nowadays with cars getting crushed so quickly rather than staying on the 2nd hand market you'd think people would appreciate renewed interest in their motors!!!

I do sometimes think that people on here can be a bit quick to judge new folk for asking questions that repeat other threads - like many people when I first came here I was new to Forums & getting what often appears a grumpy reply to a question can be very off-putting. ITS NOT WHAT YOU SAY IT IS HOW YOU SAY IT.
