General Mike Rutherfords Review

Lots of large downloadable images of the 500 are available at the Fiat Press Centre here.

Russell Bray talks about the 500 in today's Mail On Sunday (this isn't online yet as far as I can tell), and although he generally liked the car, he said about the 1.2 Pop model: "The driving position, however, is so cosy your whole body is almost in physical contact with the car all the time. You sit knees-up, as the steering column doesn't adjust and you can only tilt the back of the seat and not the leading edge under your knees. It meant my knee was touching the centre console, my left elbow hovered near the door and my hair brushed the big glass sunroof".

Surely he had his seat too far forward, unless this particular journalist has unusually short arms and long legs? And the steering column should have height adjustment with the Pop spec?

If you really want to know whether or not the 500 will be too small for you, then take a look at this YouTube video. I fit fine inside a new Panda and I'm 6 ft tall so I shouldn't have a problem with the 500.

The reviewer also said that the steering was "so vague it felt as if it was pulling on a couple of strings of spaghetti...", though he conceded that the steering firmed up when you pressed the Sport button. This sounds as if he was desperately trying to pick faults with the car!

This review shows the rear headroom at least, and it makes it look a tight squeeze.
