the wiring in the hatchback is broken where the boot loom connects the hatchback to the car. I want to repair myself. Any instruction would be super awesome. Specific wire size, connectors etc.

I've done it, took me 3 hours, you need to be competent at soldering, get silicone cover wire like on "test meter leads" solder on the new wire and pull it through the flexible next cut out the excess old wire now solder each end with heat shrink there's about 15 wires, you can use the same colour wire for all if done methodically note 6 all black cables, some may snap whilst pulling through so use a "wire coat hanger" to push through

I have the same problem but with my 59 plate fiat 500c. Will the above loom work with the convertible model as well? I am also struggling to find a video or photos of this repair on a convertible rather than hatchback. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there any preventative action which can be taken to stop the problem occurring in the first place? We have a 2011 500 which appears to be ok, but I would like to keep it that way. I have just had to replace a rusted sump and the replacement will now receive a coat of waxoil to prevent it rusting. Can something be done to protect the wiring?

Replace the affected part of the loom with extra flexible silicone cables before it fails. That way, you avoid the risk of a failure causing collateral damage (there have been reports of airbag ECU faults caused by faulty hatch wiring, some of which have resulted in ECU replacement).

There've been anecdotal reports that cars manufactured after about 2014 have extra length built into the loom and are less likely to suffer from this design fault. All cars made bedore that will fail eventually; the only question is when.

This should have been picked up in early testing, but faults like this can make it into production with any brand of car - it's the way they're handled by the manufacturer that separates the good from the bad. IMO this design fault should have been addressed by a free recall, and with many other marques, would have been. Shame on Fiat for this one. (n)
