Ask your local Fire department to cut off the roof for free inviting them to use your motor as a training aid. Once done, get the Wife/partner/mother/in-law, to fashion a rag top out of an old pair of curtains. Losing the roof should save about 25 kilos

In all seriousness there is not a huge amount you can do to the engine you have that won't cost more than trading it in a 1.4 or 1.4 turbo. You can upgrade induction and exhausts which might release a whole 5-10% but people have been faffing round with 1.2 fires for along time and there are very few easy gains.

The North American 500 pop uses a 1.4l 16 valve multiair engine as standard; going up to the Abarth adds a turbo.

Either way you know anyone that's added more than 10% to an NA fire/super fire without a turbo or a hill of cash and an engine only suitable for track work?

No, IMO your advice not to mess with it is sound. Especially as the US engine is different, probably not the kind of thing most of the local tuning shops will understand, and tampering with it in this way will most certainly invalidate the warranty.

Oh, they can be so negative on here! I don't know if you'll ever gain a great deal of power but you can change your standard panel air filter for a freer flowing one and change your exhaust for a slightly louder one. They'll both make it sound like you're going faster.
You could take a look at 500Madness.com they're in California but should be able to advise on modifications to a US spec 1.4.
