Sport trim confuses?

I have seen many journalists and comments on forums where people assume the Sport has a more powerful engine, uprated suspension, brakes etc.

I think the Sport trim level confuses many. People knowledgeable with Fiats will know a Punto Grande 1.4 Dynamic Sport has no more performance features than a 1.4 Dynamic but comparisons between the softer ride of the Lounge compared with the Sport are not uncommon but quite wrong.

I have seen criticisms of the Sport model not being sporting enough to deserve the status as the quick 500, again wrong!

I guess Fiat's marketing guys know what they are doing and are trying to appeal to various segments with the trim levels but it seems to breed misinformation.

Just an observation

Cheers

Re: Sport trim confuses?

I'm new to Fiat and I have to say the information available has been pretty sketchy, thank goodness for this forum is all I can say.

I thought the sport would have some suspension tweaks but I understand it is only the 1.4 which gets different springs, possibly in all trim levels, so probably down to a heavier engine more than anything.

The 1.4 also gets a sport button, but not the rest of the engine options......do you get the same sport button in the lounge and pop.

Anyway I've worked out enough to know what I want but it wasn't the easiest process. With the other cars we looked at you could spec pretty much what you wanted by a quick look in the brochure......even getting a 500 brochure was difficult to begin with.....

Agreed. I thought the bodykit came as standard on the Sport trim . . . it doesn't.

Yes, all trim levels with the 1.4 16v engine get the same suspension.

Re: Sport trim confuses?

Don't get me wrong, I quite like the way Fiat have developed 3 trim levels and 3 engine choice which can be pick and mixed.

We were originally looking at a 1.2 Pop with some extras but then realised the 1.2 Sport cost the same with the extras included plus a few other touches like spoiler, sports trim etc etc so wen for that.

I have to say I don't like the lounge trim, I'm not a fan of chrome at all.

I think there is something for everyone

The 1.4 does, but 1.2 and 1.3 don't.

(What's an SDE? )

So does a 1.4 Pop & Lounge get a Sport Button? (i.e. all 1.4s)

Re: Sport trim confuses?

When we all get our cars it is going to be extremely confusing. Fiat don't even put a badge on the back to help you out - "1.4 Sport" or whatever. It is going to be very hard to guess who's got what.

Re: Sport trim confuses?

I might just put a multijet badge on the tailgate... Im glad it wont have Lounge written on it though!
To be honest Fiat should have called the Lounge a Lusso, like an old 500.
