Hi guys,

I have to do an order from overseas and it's always worth ordering ahead for things to work on in future to minimise shipping costs.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with:

1. Sunroof vinyl. Mine has shrunk around the frame, is sort of bowed between front and centre and rear, but looks like the original to me. I don't know if the replacements are a decent fit and substitute? I'm learning that some of the repro parts are pretty ordinary, and don't know if the sunroof vinyl fits into this bag. Also is the fitting of a new one an awful job to be avoided if possible?

2. Bonnet seals and rubbers. My bonnet looks pretty sparse, and I know there's a gasket that goes all the way around, plus a number of smaller rubber bits. Are there any must have rubber bits for mine? I note that when I pull the release cable, the bonnet doesn't pop up, so maybe this is related to rubbers?

3. Front panel. I hadn't actually noticed this before but it looks like little blue has been in an accident, and the passenger side front panel under the headlight is dented well in. As the front panel is also full of holes from various number plate sizes, and is relatively inexpensive, I wonder if anyone has had experience with the costs associated with removing the old front panel and fitting a new one? I fear that the panel beating needed to repair the accident damage may be significant enough to make fitting a new panel worthwhile...

Any thoughts as always much appreciated.

Yes.... you are forgetting... your car is a D....
are you looking at an F front panel, as a D one is about 30% more price wise..

I have an original old vinyl sunroof hanging on my washing line. The material is such heavy duty I pretty much had to beat it flat with a stick on a warm day just so I could fold it in half to hang on the line. I would stay with the original if it is not damaged :)

Yes looking at the D ones. Still a bargain! Parts for these little ones are so much less than other classics, quite a relief!

Thanks toshi yes it is mighty tough! I've had a minor leak around the edge when washing the car but other than that it seems good.

I have fitted a rubber seal around the sun roof aperture with some Waxoyl beneath it to prevent any rain water causing unwanted corrosion damaged. It may tighten up your existing “Slack” sunroof, as it raises the roof a few mm but still gives a perfect seal.

You can buy it from some suppliers but equally I would imagine any decent trim shop should be able to supply something similar. It is a really tight fit and took a wooden mallet to knock it into place.

Tony

Sorry for another question - does anyone know how these fit?

The moulding / weatherstrip that goes around the D roll up window frame?

By the looks of it, the cloth sort of seal goes around the whole window, and yet if it's a U shape I'm not sure how it is supposed to fit around the bottom edge of the window as it winds down? Mine is very corroded but I can't work out what to replace it with. Argh!

It's the same on most models. It gets bonded on the door. Its a bit messy to get right. My advice would be to try and fit the new one without any adhesive first to make sure you're happy with the fit and procedure then bond it in. I just used Araldite and wound the window up to hold it all in place until dry

Thete is a special contact adhesive for this job.....works wonders but is horrid to work with

Ah thanks guys, I think I get it now after taking the door panel off and seeing where it all goes. A horrible job by the sounds of it, but then again beats a rusty door from rain seeping in.

I wonder, for the section along the bottom of the rollup window, the above U shaped channel looks like the same material as this. But it's more of just a strip along here, between the chrome trim and the glass (as in the pic). Is this just the channel cut in half or is it a separate part?
