I own a 69 500 Lusso. I am trying to wire a USB/cig lighter charger (No cigs!) into the wiring harness. It's already fused with a 15 amp in line mini fuse. Where would be the best place to hook it into the electrical system from the center console area? Any guidance is appreciated. Eric

I would personally take the wire back to the fuse box - any of the circuits that are switched by the ignition switch.
There isnt a lot of room around the key switch.

I think my issue will be that there are only 6 fuses. One for r. turn signal, one for left, one for brake lights, one for head lights, one for high beams and one other! Can't really remember what for, but I did notice that hooking up to the fuse box had serious limitations because it would only work when the lights were turned on! Is it possible to hook directly to the battery. If I had nothing plugged in it wouldn't drain power....Am I correct?

On a lusso there are spare terminals available on all 6 fuses. Fuse 2 goes live when ignition is switched on.....crimp a female spade terminal on - and you are away.

Well.......It works! Hooked up nicely and no arching or blown fuses. Thanks for the insight. I really wish I had the car checked over by a mechanic before purchasing. It's museum quality as far as the body and interior are concerned, but I took it into the fiat dealership today because I wasn't happy with the last repair. Once lifted the mechanic called me and said I should come by the shop and look. I went and it was a nightmare from underneath! The engine is from a 127. An 83 to be exact. The bottom panels have been sprayed with plastic coat because of floor rust. The tie rods were drilled through and reattached with nuts and bolts. The rubber boots are all dry rotted through and greased badly. The brake drums have been resurfaced so many times they're not usable. The steel line for the parking brake has been replaced with many loops of fishing line and on and on. The mechanic has been working on 500's for 37 years and owns two of them. I told him to treat it as if it's his own car and replace each and every piece as if it was his own car. I guess it will cost several thousand dollars but at least it will be right when he is finished! Lesson learned!!!!! I think with this kind of investment I WILL OWN IT FOREVER!

The engine will be from a 126 so will be a 650cc with most likely the syncro gearbox from the same model. Do you have to double clutch to change gears?
The issues you have found are to be expected.- dont be dis-heartened. Its nigh on 50 years old......and bodged repairs are common place.
The upgraded engine gived a useful boost in performance and is an upgrade many on this forum have undertaken.

No double clutching and I thought that strange. That should have told me the whole story but it just didn't register! The mechanic said two weeks for repair but he's totally rebuilding the tranny because of worn teeth, pulling the new clutch because the face is too small for the 126 tranny and replacing the brake line and the brake drums with new. He promised if he found more when he tore it apart he'd let me know. I'm sure he will! Fingers crossed. I'll et you know how that goes
