Peter, some time ago you mentioned that you had put some big rubber 'boots' on your drive-shafts to prevent 'muck 'n bullets' getting onto the drive-shaft/ coupling splines. (a) has it proved successful, (b) where did you get them from and, (c) what size boots did you get? I will be putting new drive-shaft bearings on my Fiat when it comes back from the body-shop and, subject to your observations, thought this might be worthwhile doing at the same time.

My experiment was bit of a fail Tom.
I got the boot from MisterAuto as an add-on when I was ordering in any case for my modern; it was listed as suitable for the Fiat 500.

But because the outer needs to be fitted to the aluminium coupling or driveshaft flange this means there is no clearance because of the tight fit in the swinging-arm.
I trimmed the rubber down and made it fit. it hasn't moved or cracked or leaked any of the extra grease I slapped in. But it's not the professional job I hoped it would be; I may revisit the idea in the future.

Thank you for your reply and observations Peter---much appreciated. It is this ready exchange of information that makes this forum one of the best---informative and interesting--and occasionally educational!

I have to replace the driveshaft boots for the third time - and haven't even driven it!
