Can anyone who has fitted new wings to their 500 please tell me how the inner wheel arch should be attached to the wings arch. Were they originally spot welded together.
The reason for me asking is that the wings on the car I am doing appear to have been bonded to the inner arches.

John, as you suspect, the originals are spotwelded at all flanges except for a small amount of brazing at the scuttle.
I believe that there are bonding agents which would be effective for that purpose if done with great care, and might even have advantages in reducing the corrosion risk at that very exposed junction. However I guess that most people would suggest that if replacing them, you either spot-weld or punch holes in either the lip of the wing or the inner arch and mig-weld through those.

The main reason someone has bonded them is that probably because they don't fit very well. From what I understand from someone in the know, the inner wings are possibly Fiat 126 and therefore slightly different profile.
So when matched against the 500 wing you have to do a lot of tweaking to make them tight enough to spot/mig weld.
So a easy bodge is to bond them.
Bonding is good as long as its done properly. Modern cars have more and more bonding. But they also use high strength rivets and welding together.
