I removed all of the old and rotten insulation out of the back of the back seat to solve a fume problem and to restore the area, painting etc.
Is there anything special I can use to insulate cabin from engine noise? I have buy new 6 or 8mm felt but is there anything special and better insulator available?

Thomas

I've just bought Ultimat sound deadening off Ebay. As well as covering the floor I plan to cover the rear bulkhead with it as well as the standard foam. Franko500 has used it and he says it is really good.

I got in mind something like this, my car had this original i believe rubber cover which had something like this material you are talking about stick to it and then it had a thick piece of glass-wool!! All this behind the back seat.
I will buy this ultimat or something similar put it on the bulckhead and then a piece of felt. I know that this little two cylinder beast is hard to isolate, this is rear engine car curse.(y)

I put sound deadening just about everywhere I could think of. Even a bit in the doors – just the bits left over there.

A couple of pics suppled, but it was certainly behind the back seat and on the parcel shelf too. A Dynamat type product (but cheaper).

Hi.I drove my 500 l for the first time to the MOT station with no interior apart from front
seats and OH what a racket.I thought I had better get on top of tis by putting
in all the insulation I could think of.I used the stick on antivibration mats
everywhere. Then I stuffed rockwoll into the seat base ,the sides of the back seat
and extra behind the seat back.I then went to town on the floor in a similar fashion and OH what a difference Just finishing off my mini the the fiat back in the garage to put on a steering rack instead of the box.I will post progress on here with photos when I get around to it.

Bought some seats 50X40cm 2mm thick of a rubber sound insulation special for cars. Not sure if it is the best quality since there are lot of types around but i am not going to die for it or empty my wallet:D
I will remove all the paint with paint remover, repaint it and apply the insulation. I think it will better than before anyway. Besides i always like to make noise around.:slayer:
I will also post some in progress pics

And a pic of what's behind, I tried to fit the old insulation cover just to see how it goes and looks it is shrinked in all dimensions!! Looks like it is missing 3cm from every side probably due to heat but I will buy a new one anyway.

For those interested I striped the paint, repaint it, put anti vibration and sound insulation material mentioned above and then measure the sound level of before and after, using an application on my mobile app. I got 5db less sound with only this material installed!! It really works:slayer:, along with the felt and seats i managed to improve life inside the cabin. It also feels that now little car goes faster because of the less sound, So consider this also as a tuning mod:D
Also a pain in the a$$ job, stripping paint is really hard thing to do.
