Looking at a couple of old used bumpers today I could see that one was a bit like a baked bean can and the other was more of a real bumper. Got the calipers out and the lightweight one was about 1mm thick and the chrome was rubbish. What I suspect is an original was 2mm and still had good chrome on the outer surface. Both were quite corroded on the inside and I think it is a good idea to coat the inside of the bumpers before fitting.

Interesting. I bought some years ago from a supplier of pattern parts and like your thin one they were rubbish. But the ones I bought a couple of years ago from Axel Gerstl were big chunky ones and probably a couple of mm thick and they have stayed like new with really decent chrome.

It really is a lottery with pattern parts unfortunately, the vast majority are poor copies across the board but once in a while you do come across some really good ones.

I recently tried to buy stainless steel ones- advertised on two of the UK's leading specialists- only to be told that they weren't available as everyone wants super shiny chrome ones
I want ones that don't rust !
