Technical Clunking and grating while shifting

Something seems not right, but I don't know if I should 'fix' it. .

Looking at your videos makes me think you have a few things wrong.
On my car the stud on the foot-pedal over which the eye of the cable goes is further forward. I don't know if this will give more leverage but it does mean that if we used the same cable, my pedal would give more movement at the clutch.
The clutch actuating lever at the gearbox end looks way to far towards the front of the car when at rest.

I don't know what's gone on, but I guess you have parts from earlier and later clutch systems and some of it might have been modified. I think it will have been possible to strip down the earlier clutch pressure plates and to replace the springs. My experience with older cars indicates that this might then have needed careful adjustment to get the geometry right....but maybe not. If a later clutch was fitted, that may also have messed up the angle of the levers. If a later cable has been retrofitted , with the pedal modified to fit, this would also confuse the setup.

What's certain is that it's not right. Maybe you need to start a thread with a shout out for images of the earlier clutch-cable, etc.) arrangements?

Thanks peter. It does seem like something has been done but difficult to guess at what without some D specific gearbox experience to compare with.

Since having the car I've been picking at everything that's cropped up and haven't taken the time to just enjoy driving it, so in the short term it's going to be a case of keeping it in the back of my mind and planning to come back to it later.

A big box of parts is flying over to me soon. My wife was on the computer when the order payment confirmation came in. Oops, that was badly timed!

Take it from me dude, it is easier to beg forgiveness.

I made Her Indoors press the button on the auction for the first Fiat 500's I bought, and the second lot too. She was on board when I bought another three. Although, I did get a nasty look when I turned up with a Land Rover Dormobile and she actually yelled at me when I bought her the bulldozer for Christmas. When I sent my wife a picture standing next to my (our) new 200 ton brake press I did get a nasty phone call back. The same thing happened when I bought the 700mm cold cut saw, the lathe and the machining centre. By the time I bought the Yak-52 (a share at least), I think she was numb to it.

Yep, still married after 15 years.

Hello,

I don't mean to hijack this thread but it looks reasonably relevant to my issue:

Is it really necessary to double declutch when changing down from 4th to 3rd or from 3rd to 2nd?

I've been working on the double declutching, toe and heeling and rev matching since buying a 500L about one year ago and I've reached a point where, most likely in ignorance, it seems easier, is relatively clunk free and is definitely quicker, to skip the double declutching when changing down and just rely on rev matching.

Does that make sense, does anyone else do that, or could I be doing some damage?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mauro
