My neice turned up this photo of my brother, back in 1982 or 1983, when she was just a twinkle in his eyes; unfortunately poor quality image as it is a photo of a photo off Facebook.

The passenger is my little sister, who is now in her forties. It was a 500L, WUN 230K, now almost certainly deceased, which was a twin to my own, HTD 373K in Positano Yellow. One day the photo might turn up of the two of them parked in front of my parents' house.
This was when the cars were just old bangers and you picked them up for less than £100, still working. How time flies!!!
Has anyone else got ancient photos of their 500s?

As an incidental, I now see that both that car and another which we owned had the same door mirror, possibly UK dealer fitted from new. It had a black mounting and the back of the mirror may have been the same. It looks like this one.

I know it's a cheapo and not likely to please anyone else. I would like to get one as it looks authentic to me. Has anyone else got one? Whats the quality like please?

Morning Peter;
The pictures aren't very clear, but between them it would seem to me that they look like the mirrors where you screw the base onto the door, then the mirror is held in place by a tongue at the front of the base and a screw at the rear of the mirror---am I right? If I am, I might have one that you can have.

I think you are right Tom and if you do have one you can spare, please let me know the deal.:)
It would be really nice to have an extra way to see behind me and one that will add to the nostalgia for me.(y)

You have seen mine before on the other forum but here it is again. This must be at least 20 years ago. My old VW Golf parked up in the background in the 2nd picture and that was an H reg, which I think was 1990, so it must be about 1995.

I hated that house I must add.

I am jealous that you were spinning around in Luigi all those years after I had decided that 500s were a thing of the past.
Thank goodness for the internet because without it I doubt I would ever have had one again.:)

Hi Peter;
I have found the mirrors--they are complete with bases, but not 100% spotless. If you would like them, e-mail me direct with a posting address, and I will pop them into the post to you.

Back in the day, this is me on my parents patio, fine tuning my welding skills.

Where have those years all gone?

Looks better now 29 years later.

29 years ago I expect that the parts were FACTORY---and they FITTED! You didn't have to be a 'fabrication expert' to make the panels even meet. That is not to say that your workmanship was obviously 1st class because the wee beastie is still around and going strong---well done.

Peter;
Did you get my e-mail as to what sort of postage you wish me to use re. sending the mirrors to you?
