Hi

How reliable are the manual washer pump and fluid bag?
Mine was modified to use a large plastic bottle and electric pump but I'm considering going back to the original setup.

Thanks

Greetings, I have never had a problem with the 'manual' set up. The car always passes the MOT and the washers work well. You should keep the water mixture clean and check operation from time to time.

Its also advisable to get some one way valves to put in the system to prevent the water draining back to the bag and this reduces the pumps required.
you can fit one on the pipe that goes in the bag and then one before or after the pump button. they also do one at the T junction

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll now attempt to re-fit the bag and pump along with the recommended valve.

Is the pump button known to leak? just wondering if that's why the previous owner switched to electric.

The one on my 500 wasn't working when I got it. Although it had been sitting around for 25yrs I think and going by the knee protectors I don't think either had been removed since new. The only thing wrong with it was that the rubber had perished.
