Consider that as a rhetorical question now. The answer was, a bit of penetrating oil, a thin, medium length, brand new Philips screwdriver and a steely resolve not to damage the screw heads. The end screws were a little corroded so we're the hardest to loosen.
It's all screwed back now awaiting a warm day to fit the new roof.

I was just using this thread as a reference to find out when I fitted the new roof. The original one lasted 47 years before it started to look a bit tatty and was splitting along the stitching. This new one has completely torn at the sides of the front stretcher-bar and has a crack on one side after just over a year.
So where do I get a better quality cover?

Ah but you are forgetting you have done more mileage in a year than the car had previously done in 47 years

:D:D:D
Not quite! But I have done over a third of the car's total mileage of 48 years over the last three! But only about 6,000 miles at the most before tearing the seams of the roof?...not good.
What I won't do in the future is drive above about 30mph with it open; maybe you're not supposed to?
For the moment I've used the old standby of PU sealant to glue it down...we'll see if that lasts. I have another 180 miles to do tomorrow.:):):)
