Help, please,

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to install the fuel tank heat shield so that when installing the fuel tank, everything fits.
This is for a 1970 Fiat 500 L

Doubtless this is simple but I am missing something, I guess….

Not sure whether this will help, but I've attached a couple of photos of the shield and how I positioned it on my tank.

The paired tabs on the underside of the shield are placed over the rear seam of the tank and the metal tank straps then hold it in place. There are also a pair of felt spacers on the underside of the shield.

This is how mine was fitted when I got the car and how I refitted it when I restored the little monster. Still not sure what it actually does though
