Can anyone offer any advice on lowering kits? I am looking at the cheaper end of the spectrum but there seem to be a few out there on differ sites. Can I retain the original shocks and just replace shorter springs and a reverse eye leaf Spring, or do I need shorter shocks as well? Most of the kits with shorter shocks also state that they are 30% firmer. Has anyone got experience of how comfortable a ride this is? Are there options for lowering but not creating an uncomfortably firm ride?
There is a kit on Nanni Ricambi that states its for the road, so I assume not too stiff? Anyone bought this?

Thanks,

Jamie

Morning Jamie;
When I worked for Radbourne Racing we had re-set front springs (set slightly flatter) which we changed on an exchange basis. A local company did the work for the company. For rear springs we just cut (I think) 3/4 of a turn off the original springs. We left the original dampers on. As we didn't change any of the spring 'stops' it meant that the dampers were still working within their original travel range. They were simple days!
You can get adjustable dampers, but for road use you have to set them on the softer end of their settings. With regard to front springs I would suggest that you have a word with Tony Castle-Millar at Middle Barton Garage--they sell a 'reverse-eye' flatter spring, but it is nowhere near as flat as some on the market. Don't forget, when you lower the car you will have to reset the front wheel camber and toe-in.
Some of the 'Nanni Ricambi' equipment is good, some not so good--but you will have great difficulty getting him to respond unless you live in Italy or (as I very luckily) have a 'middle man' with an Italian postal address.
Where do you live--it might be that there is a forum member close to you who can help--both with grey cells and fingers.

Thanks for the info, very useful especially regarding the camber and toe in which I had overlooked. Think I will give Tony a call before I go ahead and buy the wrong bits. I am in West Sussex, just outside Brighton. Not sure if there are any others around this way?

Morning Jamie;
If you think that it will help, feel free to use my name as an introduction at MBG. I bought my car from Tony, they did work on it prior to collection and I have spent a fair bit of my pocket money with them--including buying a lowered 'reverse-eye' front spring! Tony knows me by my real name:- Tom Montagu.
