Out in the bright sunshine. Front quarter panel and lower windscreen frame done today.

The car is a chameleon and keeps changing colour. (Although I think it is reluctant to go back to its very bright yellow however much it would please my daughter. )

I popped into reupholster yesterday to see how much it would be for him to fit the bottom back seat cover. (It required hog rings and a special tool to bend them around. )

He had a look, popped it on his bench and very kindly fitted it straight away.

I can do the others myself as they are held in with spikes built into the frames.

A bit more polishing completed.
I am very happy with the dashboard and considering that’s the part I will see the most when driving, that’s a good thing.

Doors are a lot better than when I started. A little beating, a few skims of filler and countless hours of sanding and priming.

Tried the badge just for fun. This is a 500r panel that I filled the oblong badge area and drilled holes for the f badge.

(When I was ordering panels from Germany, at the time, the f panel was not available)

My horn is mounted under the front of the car.

That's looking good.

I've said before, I found that my 1969 "F" came from the factory with an "L" front panel; in that case, the winged badge simple covers the indent. Once they designed the car properly, including re-locating the horn there was no need to have a silly hole in the panel. ;)

So you'll be back on the road before the end of winter?(y)

Thanks Peter

Yes I should be back on the road by the end of winter, but I won’t commit to which year the winter will be in.

I didn't think they had Winter down under, just various degrees of Summer. :D

AL.

AL.

Up North that would be the case but where I am the average winter temp ranges from 0 to 10C The average temperature graph for the year looks like a roller coaster.

Looking at the current temperature I should really go out and work on the car as it is not below zero.

Looking good! I'm trying to get my 500 back on the road by summer and your miles ahead of me! Keep up the good work.

Fitted lowered springs. Note at first I tried the camber adjustment brackets with the standard spacers in place as the brake line was in the way. Way too much positive camber so I moved the brake line and refitted without the spacers.

What toe-in and camber angles are you going to set the front suspension? I have found that just a fraction of toe-in (factory is 0-2mm) is best--mine is 0.5mm; and a fraction of POSITIVE camber when the car is siting with nobody in it. I have set my (lowered spring) lowered suspension so that the bubble in the camber gauge is JUST nudging positive camber (car empty)---that way when it has people in it, the camber goes to JUST negative. Too much negative camber, and it will show up on tyre wear! You might also find that by lowering and changing camber from factory you will lose some of the 'self-centreing' action.
Alternatively, you could try and find enough bags of spuds etc. to put in the front to represent a couple of people---but you will be surprised as to how many bags you will need!
