The majority of our schemes only require photographs and a self deceleration form to enable us to agree a value.

Ok so I spoke to my current insurer Peter James about agreed value and they will agree the value up to £15k by simply completing a valuation form and by sending in some photos at no additional cost. So I am happy to stick with them again for another year.
 
I just got my quote for next year’s insurance. It’s very reasonable at £67 but I notice I’m only covered for £7,000 in total loss, which doesn’t seem enough. I do have the advantage that if written off, I get the salvage thrown in anyway, but a relatively straight, perfectly running car with a significant amount of it’s original components would be hard to find. Most of the cars I see for sale look like either hastily renovated LHD imports and cosmetically over-restored, souped-up “Evocazione”-types which turn me off; most of them are asking for at least £7,000.
Does anyone wish to help me decide if I should ask for an increased agreed value, bearing in mind that this also needs to be realistic from the insurer’s point of view?

Counting the work that you put into his restoration, plus his proven abilities day by day, if Murph were mine I would want him covered for a lot more than £7000.

I would be asking for at least £12k. The thing with classic cars is originality always results in a high price as most enthusiasts want that. An upgrade to 650 is a fairly fool proof upgrade which won’t affect the price too much. “Evocazione” style cars as you say, are pretty dangerous ground if buying one second hand, you don’t know who’s done the work or whether they are competent enough to be doing it correctly. Has the car had a tough life, probably if it’s been tuned up for the sole purpose of going faster.
 
My 72 L is insured on a multicar policy with Admiral. It is a UK right hand drive with 126 engine box and rack and pinion steering .I had to send photos of the inside and outside to get agreed value cover.It worked of very reasonable.I have 3 classics and one everyday car on the policy.

Hi.
Sorry we can't help out with your insurance. We can cover vehicle that are primarily kept outside of the UK but these are only vehicles that are registered and taxed in the UK.

I will try Admiral. I find that "agreed value" with my current insurer, quite understandably, involves an inspection by an independent valuer or a relevant classic car club. Both options are hard for me to arrange and would be an additional cost. I found an online tool to estimate value and my car comes out at closer to £9,000 than £7,000, which seems right. So more shopping around needed.

Peter, my agreed value, with Adrian Flux, is based on me sending in a signed declaration and seven recent photographs showing various angles and details which they present to their underwriters for approval. No faffing with getting club valuations involved. You nominate the value and, if they agree, they ask for a further £15 for agreed valuation. HTH (y)
 
Same here with Brentacre...just need to complete a form with details and estimated value plus several photos (as long as value under 25k). £15 fee but only needed every other year. No need for inspection.
 
Looking at Adrian Flux site (cue Dan to pop up ;) ), it seems that they have an easy management system for agreed value and clear terms. You are subject to scrutiny of the remains of the car if written off and I'm not sure you get free salvage, but I'll be applying through them and see what comes up
 
I've just renewed my insurance with Lancaster Insurance. This will be the third (maybe fourth) year with them, and each year I pay for an agreed valuation, at an additional £18 from memory.

I've never had to produce a formal valuation, as they have a valuations team. You just need to fill out an online form, send photos (minimum of 6, front, rear, left side, right side, interior and engine bay from memory) and provide any additional evidence (invoices etc.).

Middle Barton completed my Abarth conversion a couple of years ago, and Tony gave me a verbal 'range' for the car's new value, which I reference each year. The Lancaster valuations team have always valued my car within that verbal range.

Hope that helps. I've always found it an easy process, with no need to hunt down a formal valuation.
