Does anyone know if there are dimensional differences between the two. I can see there are extra support members but I think that might be quite useful.

I think they are the same but it has a larger cross rail and also the 3 front members. You can always remove them. Shouldn't be any difference in size as they don't list any other sills for the 500r which was built with the 126 floor pan

Thanks Sean. The wheel base is the same so length is right and the track varies a little between models but that may slightly be down to wheels and tyres.
if the will deliver I think I'll get it. It would be a good starting point.

I also have both met and dealt with Lucas--absolutely no problem with dealing with him--and if you buy direct from him (i.e. NOT e-bay) you get a small discount. I recommend him.

The cut out for the inner wheel arches are different, may depend on 126 model. You may have to add material in the front corners. (I tried to fit a 126 carpet in the 500)

In addition to the three front members, which I assume will give a fair bit of extra rigidity to the chassis, the 126 also has an A-shaped strengthening piece which connects the spare-wheel well with the bottom of the main floor.

I think this might simply serve to prevent the front end being pulled out if the car is towed and maybe to reduce the potential from damage in a slow, front-end bump.

Has anyone seen this item for sale and can anyone comment if it's fitted to their own car? My memory may be confusing things with a 126 that I used to own once when I had lost my marbles. But I vaguely thought one of my 1972 Fiats, back in the '80's, used to have this feature.

I Can confirm the 126 floor will fit perfectly the under side box section I removed completely, no issues also the inner rocker panel will fit very slight mod with panel hammer at door end is needed but they will fit. I also used the A piece at front of car under rack steering for rigidity.

I can agree, I cut out a floor from a 126 and welded it into my 500. I kept the reinforced sections and the front A frame. I also fitted the steering rack for good measure. Fitted like a glove. It definitely stiffens the car, becomes more of a bone shaker especially with our pot holes.

A good starting point for what?

Methinks this is what happens when you stick 1/2 of a 500 up on your living room wall and stare at it for long enough :)

You do realize that you're still missing a few panels?

Al. :D

My 500F was a late build.
I think mine, and probably some others around the same time, is a parts bin special.
My floor is the same as a Fiat 126. It has the 3 front supports and the 'A' bracket that sits under the steering box assembly. At some point when they were launching the series 1 126 they must have committed the production line to build with the 126 floor design.

I had always assumed that the 500R must be the same although I have never seen the underside of one.
