Hi guys,

New to the whole 500 forum etc,

Was driving the car a few days ago and noticed that there was hardly any power at all....? Any idea what could be causing this? The distributor came loose last week so I fixed that now she struggles to make 40/50 kmh on the motorway? She has a new exhaust new carb (my mechanic said he had problems with the jets in the carb?) would this be causing the low power output? When I say low power I mean she hardly pulls at all....

What you have described is the basics required to run an engine.
1. Carb - controls the fuel/air ratio
2. Distributor - controls when the spark is supplied, causing combustion.

Either of those can cause the problem described.
The easiest to deal with is the timing. Make sure the points open to the right gap also make sure the points are just opening at 10 degrees before top dead centre, spark plugs have the correct gap and no damage to the distributor cap & rotor arm.
Once this is done the carb can then be adjusted ie. mixture & idel setting.
