As part of the huge " items to complete " is a security upgrade.
It has a battery kill switch.......but my father is convinced its going to be stolen so a tracker is next.
Any experiences guys and gals?

In my experience I never had mine nicked, mind you, it's maybe a touch less valuable:D

Seriously, unless you bolt it to the gound or weld it to a bollard, it's a very easy car to steal because of the size and that's what you need to prevent in the first place. The easiest thing to do would be to leave a fully charged smart-phone under the back seat when you have to leave it in a dodgy place....but don't leave it in a dodgy place anyway.

I've had a few nice cars where Trackers were demanded by insurers.

The market has moved on and you can now get "low cost" trackers.

They start at £35 with a SIM card but £100 gets you something worthwhile.

No contract just about £3 per month on topping up the card if the car is frequently used.

I'm planning on using mine for work - so it may sometimes be left in places where it will attract "interest"

An alarm seems pointless - a tracker sends a text when its been moved and its meant to be stationary....

Hi Andrew, do you have any recommendations for the £100 trackers mentioned? I've been looking into this for when my 500 is finished having had my daily driver stolen just over a week ago. :(
I've been looking at these so far...

Very interesting, I wonder if the low running costs can be achived?

Perhaps this should be a separate thread and include alarm/immobilisers?

I guess if the car doesn't get used much - there is little data to transmit.
It has a deep sleep mode - something my car will be used to!!
BUT - not anymore!!

I will order one and report back

this tracker @£24.95 doesn't even need a SIM - works on crowd GPS where all enabled phones search for all devices - so when its out of range of your mobile phone - all other enabled phones will tell you where it is.....

That's a brilliant device Andrew. At that price, even worthless but irreplaceable lumps like mine are worth tracking. The fact that the "crowd GPS" relies on other "trackr" users passing within 100m is the only weak point I can see, but it's a big weakness up here in The Wilds.:)

Tracker purchased - it's currently locked to my 1000kg work bench with a motorcycle lock!
It requires minimal works to MOT and I need to be confident that it's secure as possible - so I can use it all the time.
I will use the full steering wheel cover/lock when I'm out on business and it also has a battery kill switch.
The tracker allows the electric fuel pump to be remotely isolated from my smart phone.....nice idea ...

I seem to have excessive travel in the brake pedal - does anyone have the dimensions / length of the pin on the pedalbox that presses the master cylinder please?

I can't find any dimensions for the standard 500 brake rod, but the 500R/126 brake actuating rod is 10mm diameter and 75mm in length.

Many thanks Tom

I'll drop it out and check if its worn.

I have a pedal - its just lower than i would like

Hi Bleeding Knuckles and Andrew: Can you let us know how you set up your engine with degrees advance and any other settings in that regard? I have a 700cc engine but want to see if we are close. Also, if you have the specs for your weber (assuming a 40 DCOE?) with jet sizes and tube sizes, etc., I would appreciate any info you have. Please provide your altitude if you have the carb info.

Thanks in advance!
