Tuning Canterbury 695

I purchased some clear lenses headlamps with blue centres from Italy and then a H4 LED conversion from a UK specialist in classic headlamp upgrades
Very white
Very bright

Didn't get to start it yesterday - exhausted and 5 children's bedtime!!!
Soon,.........!?

Hi what's the secret to protecting the " delicate" Italian chrome
GTechniq products have been discussed but which concoction ?

There are quite a few of these 'nano' coatings around, from various makers. But for gtechniq- C1/C5 (they are the same) will provide the best protection. Apply with care though and take your time. It will last 2-3 years, depending on use, before you need to re-coat.

C2 is easy to apply, reapply and is cheaper. A coat will last 6 months, or easily 12 months with infrequent use. It isn't as hard as C1/C5, and so won't stop light scratches or protect as well, but it will still create a barrier, slowing down any reaction to the chrome plating.

Another option is to get another layer/s of plating added by a plating company here to your chrome. This will increase it's protection significantly, albeit an expensive option.

cheers, Steve

Many thanks Steve
My new nudge bars didn't like the damp Kent weather - made for Italian sunshine!

Ahhhhghgg
Tried to start the beast
All looked good started to splutter and then never caught
Seems like a very weak spark / no spark
123 fitted so investigation need
Beach and ten pin bowling for the rest of the day so fustration thoughts trying to work out what it might be

Ideas please

I have found a problem with the electronic ignition wiring - I have a earth connection where I shouldn't

Hopefully get home and try again before the weather breaks

Having fitted a low front Spring I have issues regarding wheel clearance on one side. This is not improved by needing wheel spacers
Temporarily I will fit a lifting packer on the side with problems but I am awaiting delivery of independent front suspension with coil overs and a front strut brace. This will give me adjustment for height.
The wisdom given when fitting the new suspension frame is to reinforce the shock absorber mounting as the tin is very thin and the coil over may punch it's way through
Any experiences of fitting the kit?

hi Andrew;
I know this may sound silly, but check your wheelbase is the same both sides---they didn't all come out of the factory with exactly matching measurements! The wheelbase on the 500 is:- 72.4ins (1180mm). If the 'catching ' side is slightly out, this could be the cause of your problem, and lowering the car does tend to exacerbate the problem.

Hi Tom
I will check against your spec supplied
The new independent setup allows each side to be height adjusted so will eliminate this issue
It was a mod I was going to fit later - but now seems best time

Hopefully get it started at the weekend !!
Then the dreaded MOT

I've also completed my "works style" hard top
Has anyone else fitted an opening hard top?

Currently sorting a sticking throttle pedal / cable
Made a packer to lift suspension and will fit it today but new suspension will arrive this week.
My daughter says my car will be the fastest lawnmower in Canterbury

Had all sorts of fun with a sticking throttle cable
Full interior strip out
New cable fitted without eradicating the problem
So I fitted an extra spring to the pedal itself to ensure no open throttle exploding engine nightmares
Still had problems so pulled a draw wire through the steel tube the cable travels in the tunnel AND success!

I had the similar problem today.
New cable and 2 springs on throttle linkage. Every now and then the throttle wouldn't return home.
I found I had to adjust the bracket on the fan housing as the inner cable wasn't bent but was sticking. This made the inner cable come out of the outer more central and seemed to sort it.?

Mine was exacerbated by the custom bracket needed for the dellorto FZD and custom spring setup on the alloy fan top
I only had photos of Italian examples to go by
Priority was to have no jammed throttle disasters

What's the opinion on when to convert to an electric fuel pump?
It's something I've been considering

Independent suspension has been delivered!
Just need to make two reinforcing plates to sit over the top of the shock absorber to act as a stronger top mount

Shiny bits!!

Just need to remove the spring hanger bracket thats fused to the stud - and make two reinforcing plates to stop the shock absorber appearing theough the inner arch.

Hi Andrew; congratulations on your progress--the 'wee beastie' is alive and kicking at last!
With regard to removing seized ally spring mounts, the only way really is to VERY CAREFULLY grind the front and back of the mount, ALMOST to the stud and then split what is left at the front and rear with a chisel so as to open up the hole that the stud runs in. The mount can then, with a bit of leverage (an OLD, big chisel can be used to start the mount moving, with the chisel being used between the body and the mount) slowly ease the mount down. It is tedious and you must be careful not to damage the threads on the studs, because they are a real bugger to replace.
