Technical Major Issue After Oil Change

Hi Pete

Sorry to be a pain, but do you have the profile of the tyres? 145 / ?? x12. I am thinking that with a reduced profile, as suggested by Grandeguy, I might get away with the overall dimension of the rim and tyre by dropping from say 145/80 x R12 to 145/70xR12. That 10m/m should be enough to maintain some clearance on the turns?

Cheers

Just been away this weekend Hugh, will check tomorrow and report back!

Hi Hugh,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I've been away and haven't been able to eyeball the tyres. The exact size of the tyre is 145/70/R12. Sounds like I could drop it to a 60?

I drive past a tyre place on the way to work each day and there's a 500D parked there most mornings that belongs to the owner! I'll drop into there on the way home tonight and get some advice.

On another note, I took it for a longer spin last night and the oil seems to have burnt off the fire proof material that's wrapped around the exhaust. So, no more oil smoke and the car is running well.

A lucky escape, and a lesson learnt regarding not putting too much oil in!!

Thanks for your advice and help everyone.

Pete

Thank you Pete, I think I will be going for 135 R80 x12 after all that especially with the rims I want. Glad you're getting there with the oil issue.

Cheers

There's more to this wheel arch rub than first met the eye! Look out for a new post!
