Hi All,
I was thinking of treating myself to an early birthday/Christmas present of a new sports exhaust. I already have a sports exhaust of undetermined origin (see attached) but after a number of years and now with the addition of a larger twin choke carb I'm beginning to find it a bit too loud and would like something a bit milder. Axel Gerstl where I get all my parts seems to have the best choice of sports exhausts and I've put my eye on this one: http://webshop.fiat500126.com/katal...ust_pipe_record_monza_double_tailspout_chrome, as it has nice thin dual exhaust tail pipes like the original abarths as opposed to the more modern looking large diameter tail pipes. My question is this, I notice that the site is advertising most exhausts in 2 versions one for 500 F/L and one for 500R/126. I'm assuming this is because of the different positioning of the heater outlet tube on the different models rather than any difference in the diameter of the manifold part of the exhaust systems? As I have a 650 engine but the engine tinware is from a 500F I was thinking that I would need to order the 500F/L version on the assumption that the pipe is kinked differently to clear the heater outlet tube exiting from the back but I'm unsure if the diameters are the same between the 2 versions. Can anybody confirm this please?

Thanks,

colm.

I think you are pretty much spot on there. You can fit a 126 exhaust to a 500 but you need to take your ball end hammer to the heater outlet pipe on the thermostat housing to get a little clearance . I have also found that some original 500 exhaust elbows have a slightly smaller outlet so the larger exhaust pipes do not locate. That exhaust you are looking at looks a dead ringer for the one I just fitted to my modified 126 engine except mine had no makers marks and was totally chrome plated and is of very robust construction. It was something that popped up on ebay and I took a chance. I took a video of the initial start up with the totally rebuilt engine but not sure if I can post it. The exhaust is louder than standard but not one of those ear splitters.ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1405171021.906785.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1405171069.982716.jpg

Thanks for that Toshi, so the 126 versions won't clear the 500 heater outlet but there is also the possibility that the 500 version won't match the diameter of the exhaust elbows of the 126 650 engine. I suppose I might be best then to go for the 126 version and modify the outlet tube to gain clearance.

Thanks again,

Colm.
