I've been meaning to do this for ages but have never got around to it.

My car has an array of five different coloured 8A fuses and one 25A fuse on the switched 12V circuit (2-B). The user manual states that they should all be 8A. I don't know how the 25A one snuck in, but as I intend to install a few extra instruments at some stage, I'll replace it with a 16A one and leave all of the others 8A. Besides, I need a red one in there somewhere.

So today, I splashed out and bought new ceramic fuses and installed them.

For general information the standard colours for ceramic fuses are -

5A Yellow
8A White
16A Red
25A Blue

I know that this isn't very interesting, but hey, that's my life :)

Chris

PS: And yes Joe, I know that two of them aren't quite straight ... ;)

Upon reading my last I think it needs clarication lest the wrong impression is given.

I am suggesting that we are a little warped rather than not straight.

Comes from living in the tropics I think.

A 25A fuse might be as good as a piece of wire. There's a reason for a specific fuse value and you can't arbitrarily increase the value, unless you beef up the wiring, switches, etc.

Yep - you're right and my fusebox is now back to all white 8A. Still the red fuse did look good in there for half an hour or so.

When I rebuilt the car, I also rebuilt the wiring loom which was in very poor shape. I had to do a lot of rewiring because I couldn't get a RHD loom and with help from an autoelectrician beefed up the red (30) and blue (15/54) circuits with heavier duty wire as I was fitting an alternator rather than refitting the generator. I think we used 16G which with the length concerned, will handle 18-20Amps. And finally, in the back of my head was the fuse issue, which is now sorted.

With new connectors and proper earth connections I think that I may have an electrically reliable Italian car ... If not, at least there are no Lucas components.
