Well, our car got through the MOT a few days ago.

However, we have an ongoing problem that is bothering me.

The lights (and everything else light related) alternate between full brightness and about 75% brightness whilst we are driving.

Even the indicators are less bright and flash slower, but it doesn't even coincide with us driving over bumps!

I have checked the obvious things, cleaned fuses and holders, checked and cleaned the earth connection from the battery to the body, sprayed all switches with WD40 but it still persists.

Not a major deal, but irritating! If it happens on unlit roads it looks like we are flashing our lights at oncoming traffic....

Any ideas greatfully received!

Paul hows it going? Possibly the Voltage regulator? What do you think.

Yup, I'd also think voltage regulator, pop a meter on it.

649cc 126 engine fitted with alternator..........

Alternator brushes worn and poor contact? Or a dodgy diode pack on the alternator?...poor earthing connection at battery or engine?..

Hmmmm...... the one to the battery is fine but I forgot the one on the engine.... need to check it methinks!

Earth lead to the engine looks grubby to say the least.

First opportunity I'll pop it off and clean it up.

Could it be weak battery?
