Hello, I am new to the forum. I have 1969 cinquecento which has been in my family since new in Italy. My grandfather and I just brought the car over to the states and we are looking for a mechanic/some one to restore the car who is in the New Jersey, New York area. The car is in great condition right now, mechanically the only problem is that the brakes mysteiously stopped working (the worked fine in Italy this summer), but we are looking for someone who can look the car over mechanically to make sure all is well and for a tune up. Anyone out there know of a mechanic who works on these cars? Also, any advise on restoring, or is bringing to a reputable body shop OK, or should it be someone specialized?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum, it would be great if you could put some pictures of your car on here, would love to see it !
As for help with your 500, my knowledge of 500 in the states is limited - have they got much of a following there ? I dont know if there would be specialist help out there, maybe an internet search may be in order !
500's are such simple things to work on, could you repair it yourself? Look forward to some pictures!

Jim McGill might have some ideas as he's taken various FIATs to the US including his classic Panda, and (possibly) his Nuova 500.

Try looking on www.littlefiatbigadventure.com/index.htm

Hope this link works. If you can't get in touch via that site, try looking for him
in the leisure lounge area of this forum. I can't remember exactly what his name is on here, but if you ask in leisure lounge, someone's sure to know.
