General New 126 Bis owner saying hello!

Hello all! I've been a member of the forum for many years and have owned several fiat including a couple of Pandas and a Cinquecento. I've always wanted a 126 and have just been able to afford a 1988 bis! However......It has 12 months Mot but does require some Tlc. .... The journey when I collected it was very short.....about 4 miles, then RAC as the car kept cutting out. Seems to have an ignition switch issue. Also could do with a car rebuild.....and today while tinkering, the alternator started smoking! Oh joy. Still, it's a cheeky Lil car, 12000 original miles, very little tin worm and is Patel blue. Still it is keeping me quiet! Anybody had similar issues?

Hi, the joys of Italian electrics! Always wanted one though, so I'm not too worried. It's so cool to look at :) Engine will be coming out this weekend for a clean and paint. Could with a clutch too so I think I'll do that while I'm there. I just joined the 126 club and bought a copy of the fiat workshop manual, which I've got to say is brilliant. Just can't wait to get the old girl on the road now :)

Meet bluebell. As named by my Nan :) Chrome bumpers have arrived along with clear indicators (fitted). Have spent today sorting electrical gremlins (of which there are many). Starting to get somewhere with the old girl now :)

A big (y) for the clear indicators and chrome bumpers!, for some reason they look so much better

I t have had a few electrical gremlins but my issue at the moment is getting the cooling system to work

Ahh. Thermostat?

Yep :bang: it might aswell be made of chocolate for all the good it is. For the last three days it's been boiling over due to an air lock. I've tried relentlessly to bleed the system of it however it still keeps boiling over so enoughs enough! I'm gonna fit a new one but in a different place with a kit a bought some years ago so hopefully that will sort it

Good plan, mine seems to be functioning at present, but I intend to upgrade a few things as time goes on. Fuel pump, thermostat etc. Next move is to rebuild the carburettor and fit a fuel filter!!!! Can't believe it hasn't got one! Then I'm going to remove the stupid dim/dip relay circuit so that it all runs separately side/dip/main beam. This feature has failed on every fiat I've owned so I'm removing it asap. :) After this short list, fit bumpers etc and then hopefully drive it......until the next fault ;-P

Lovely looking car! :worship:

As you're not that far from me and gadge, I've added you to the Midlands Italia mailing list -- so you get advance 'warning' of local meets, etc. -- in the hope that, one day, you'll both turn up in your 126s...! :)

PS: And if you'd like a red one, let me know -- although its engine is currently not connected to anything...!

Hey Gadge, thanks for the headlamp covers :) made some good progress with the old girl this last week. How's your overheating issue going?

Glad to hear they got there ok and are being used (y)

The overheating issue is terminal it would seem - I'm 99% sure it's a head gasket fault. I'm gonna give I a rebuild I think with a replacement spare head I have already rebuilt plus some other new parts such as new camshaft and lifters and new rings
