Exclamation Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Hi guys and welcome to the forum.

As you can probably gather from looking through the site, the majority of our users are drivers of the newer models, however it had always been my dream to try and get the older model drives onboard.

Recently I've noticed a bit more traffic in both here and the X1/9 section and I'm hoping this can continue, it would be fascinating to learn more about the wonderful models of yesteryear.

So I encourage everyone to join up to the social group (listed just above the post listing you are looking at now) so we can see who is online and then try and get a nice bit of banter going both in here and the main forum.

Of course, remember to invite your friends too, post your car up in the http://www.fiatforum.com/members-motors/ forum and generally enjoy what we have to offer here

I hope to be speaking to some of you very soon!

Smile Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

I'm a newbie to this site and the owner of two Fiat 124 Spiders. This may become a duplicate of a post that I just attempted to make. After typing my post and trying to submit it, I was informed that I was not logged in. If the other shows up, please forgive the duplication.

I have long been a lover of cars since I got my first car at the age of fourteen while I was in high school. This was back in the dark ages, and I was able to get my drivers license before getting the car.

I currently own two Fiats. The first is a 1979 Fiat Spider 2000. The second is a red 1983 Fiat Spider Pininfarina, which I bought in 2003.

I'm presently doing some restoration on the 1979 convertible. It needs a new brown/bronze paint job, and I'm replacing the fuel tank which has developed a leak from long time storage and not being driven enough.

I'm looking forward to enjoying and learning from the long term members of this site. Thanks in advance for everything this site is offering!

Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

I failed to indicate in my post that I'm located in the southeastern part of the U. S. and that I live in Smyrna, Georgia, just north of Atlanta, GA. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of posts from owners of the older Fiats. Thanks for having a terrific site for Fiat lovers and owners!

Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Ciao,
My first new car was a 1972 124 Spider, 20 years later my second spider was a totaled (it had been in a flood) 1978. Another 20 years and I purchased 1979 Pininfarina 2000. I bought it to be my daily driver when I lived in California. It is now my summer daily driver New Hampshire. Having owned this care for eight years I'm sure you've figured out that I am an old (well not too old) fart. Alas, in my youth I was jealous of all those old men in cool cars.

I'm looking for some help. I put the car up for the winter and it was in its best shape ever. Upon taking it out of storage I now have a few, possibly connected, problems. The emergency flasher button will not stay in the OFF position, causing the lights to flash all the time (BTW the indicator lights do work). The turn signals and indicator lights do not work. Finally the high beam indicator light does not work. All the fuses have been checked and are fine.

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Ragno2000

Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Strangely enough, I am a newbie here.... I traded my 1984 Corvette for an 80 Spider I saw sitting in some guys car collection.

That being said, I do have an issue...

"Hi, just bought this 80 Spider, well I actually traded my 84 Vette straight across for it. I think I got the better end of the deal, but I suppose value is all a matter of perspective! "

Anyhow.....

it won't start. It will run for a moment with starter fluid. So knowing that, it gets spark, and knows it is supposed to be sending a signal to the distributor/plugs to fire when I am cranking it.

I do NOT hear the fuel pump prime when I turn on the key.
I replaced the fuel pump, and when I bypass the dual relay under the glove box, the fuel pump runs.
I also replaced the dual relay.
If I move the Air Flow Sensor, the fuel pump will start. I just did this, so I haven't had a lot of time to see if that is the issue.

The issue, is that when I turn the key, there is no signal getting through to the fuel pump to turn on and pump.
Also, on a side note, none of my dash gauges work.

Any ideas?

Re: Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

I would suggest a routine check of the wiring going to the switch and tracing it backwards. It sounds like something as simple as a loose or broken wire. Check the current level of the battery. I know this offers very little toward a solution. Please post your results in solving the problem. My regrets for not offering more.

So far it is unsolved, but perhaps you can clear up one little question. where does the pressurized fuel line connect? to the bottom of the pressure regulator, or to the solid fuel rail by the injectors? I am thinking someone tampered with this because of the no start issue I am having. Diagrams just do not verify what I think it should be.
Thanks!
Shawn
