Fiat Ducato Van 2.3 MultiJet / Error Code p402 / egr a flow excessive

Hello!

The engine light in our Fiat Ducato Van 2.3 MultiJet 2007 has started to light up and when we plug in the odb reader we get the following error message eg a flow excessive p402.
We have googled and found that you can unscrew it and spray in WD40 to clean the egr valve. Is it worth doing that or just as well to buy a new egr valve?

You can try and clean the EGR valve . Take it off carefully and look to see if it is stuck open.

My understanding is the ecu calculates the exhaust gas flow via the change in the inlet air flow measured by the MAF when the EGR valve is opened.

A faulty MAF can trigger an EGR flow code.
